Thomas Jefferson's Academic Bowl teams have earned 1st Place finishes in the MSHSAA Class I district tournaments each year for the past 15 years, and has won the state competition in seven of the past 11 years. The 2012-13 team won the MSHSAA Ozark 7 Conference contest, the district competition, and the state sectional competition. They will compete in the state tournament on May 3.
Quiz bowl, also known as Scholar Bowl, Scholastic Bowl, Brain Bowl, Academic Bowl, and Knowledge Bowl, is a competition featuring questions and answers on all topics of human knowledge. The game is played with a lockout buzzer system between two teams of four players each. A moderator reads questions to the teams,and players endeavor to buzz in first with the correct answer, scoring points for their team.
The Upper School Academic Team is coached by Nate Kinsat, and participates in various competitions throughout the school year. The varsity and junior varsity squads compete in six dual matches in the Ozark 7 conference, a conference tournament, and up to seven additional tournaments throughout the state. The district champion, determined in April, qualifies for the state sectional tournament. Sectional winners move on to the state finals which are held in Columbia in May. The Thomas Jefferson Academic Team is a member of the Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA).
The Middle School Academic Team is coached by Zina Lewis, and competes with other area Middle School students. During the 2011-2012 season, the team took 1st place in tournaments for language arts, history, science and math, and finished 2nd place in the humanities tournament.
