National Honor Society
Thomas Jefferson is a member in good standing in the National Honor Society. Members are selected by a faculty council on the basis of high standards in scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Library
Thomas Jefferson maintains a well-stocked library with books of interest to all ages through adult. Books may be checked out by all students, and by any TJ parent. The circulation period is two weeks.
French Club
The French Club is designed to enhance the classroom experience by promoting culture: food tasting, movies, games, video clips, etc. The main calendar events are: National French Week (1st week in November), holidays’ celebrations in winter and spring and representation at the school’s international fair in February. The Club is open to all interested in the French Culture without the requirement of taking French classes. All French students are required to be members of the French Club. Literary Magazine
Students create a 28-page full-color literary and arts magazine in the spring called Magna Artifex, that showcases creative student work including poetry and creative writing in English, French and Latin and Spanish, and artwork such as photography, sculpture, pottery, paintings, and drawings.
Newspaper
Upper School students participate in the Newspaper elective class and create an eight-page, full-size school newspaper every quarter using Adobe InDesign. The paper includes sections on sports, school activities, world events, an editorial page, and a page for music, movie, and book reviews. As a part of the newspaper class, students participate in an annual field trip to the Joplin Globe for its annual Student Newspaper Workshop and Contest in the fall.
Yearbook
Students in grades 9-12 work diligently throughout the year to produce the Cavalcade, Thomas Jefferson’s annual yearbook. Using the latest technology available, including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and other current applications, the students complete all phases of the publication process: planning, photo shoots, digital photo editing, composition, copy editing and proofreading. Our staff of Upper School students also assists in selling the books, contacting and working with potential advertisers and coordinating efforts with the publishing company. Beginning in 2007, the book was 100% digitally produced and in full color. |
