Students in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades participate in the TJ Spelling Bee. Five finalists from each class were selected to participate in the school bee. The TJ bee, held in January or February, consists of two bees, an elementary bee and a middle school bee.

2010-2011: Gabriel Hershewe (MS) and Henry White (LS)
2009-2010: Pranav Suri (MS) and Henry White (LS)
2008-2009: Suma Ancha (MS) and Pranav Suri (LS)
2007-2008: Sanjay Jenkins (MS) and Christian Atteberry (LS)
School winners represent TJ at the Annual Joplin Globe Spelling Bee held in March on the campus of MSSU.
