This course provides a detailed and intensive immersion into all components of academic writing. Students will learn hands-on tips and strategies for outlining essays based on: solid structure and logic; creating strong and clear thesis statements and introductory paragraphs; formulating effective and varied transition statements; avoiding/editing common grammatical errors with sentence formation, subject-verb agreement, standard word forms, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization; organization for sequence of ideas and awareness of purpose; and style, including sentence variety, word choice, audience awareness, and personal voice. This class is for students who need a bit more practice and exposure to writing, as well as above-average writers looking to take their skill-set to the next level.
