on the campus of Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School
Kids College Programs 2019-2020
Kids College Sessions are on Saturdays, 9 – 11 a.m.
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the planets of our solar system. Students will learn the order of the planets, fun facts about each planet, and where the asteroid belt can be found. The students will also learn through movement as they don the names of the planets and physically move themselves in orbit around a sun. We will also discuss the similarities and differences between comets, meteors and asteroids. This class is for anyone interested in space and astronomy!
Have you ever wondered how a snowflake is formed? Do all snowflakes have 6 sides? Join us as we usher in the winter season by learning all about these beautiful crystalline forms. Students will learn words such as hexagonal, symmetrical, molecule and crystal through the context of winter weather and put their knowledge to work by building their very own snowflake.
Magic of Colors
Join our Early Childhood faculty as we explore the vibrant world of color! In this class, students will learn about capillary action and color-mixing by making colored water walk! They will also learn about primary and secondary colors, warm and cool colors, and the order of colors in a rainbow. So dress brightly and join us for a morning of FUN as we explore the color spectrum.
Animal Classification and Life Cycles
In this session, we will explore the life cycles and various types of animals. Your budding young scientist will begin by learning how to classify animals into 6 subsets: mammals, insects, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish. We will also delve deeper into the differences between some of the subsets by studying the life cycles of the bee, frog, and chicken. This class is perfect for any animal lover!
