Individualized Attention for Academic Success
The Thomas Jefferson Middle School program prepares children to think critically, communicate clearly, study efficiently, and collaborate effectively — important skills they need for the challenges of Upper School and beyond.
Students continue to acquire and refine essential academic knowledge and skills through core subjects in English, math, science, social studies/history, and world languages, including Chinese, Latin, and Spanish.
Through physical education classes, students develop lifelong fitness skills. TJ’s emphasis on The Arts helps them to cultivate talents and an appreciation for fine and performing arts.
Opportunities to discover talents and gain confidence also await students through electives and activities such as robotics, strategic games, the Middle School Musical, orchestra, vocal ensemble, and extracurricular activities, including athletics, scholar bowl, and Destination Imagination.
All students have a place at TJ. Modeling the Honor Code, our faculty teach students importance of respecting each other and developing effective social skills.
Faculty members in each grade level are focused on every student’s academic success and development as individuals. These professional educators are exceptional mentors who offer support and guidance as students negotiate the challenges that come with moving from childhood to adolescence. They create an environment where students learn to seek out challenges, welcome criticism, test new capacities, and find joy in learning.
TJ’s Middle School program offers the most comprehensive way to prepare children for future academic success in Upper School and beyond. Students also develop social, emotional, and leadership skills that help them become engaged in the community. For details about the Middle School program, explore the Curriculum Guide.
100% of TJ graduates are accepted into four-year colleges and universities, and many also receive significant merit-based scholarship offers.
